“…Comprehensive Assessment of Psychopathic Personality-Lexical Rating Scale. The CAPP-LRS (Cooke et al, 2004;Sellbom et al, 2015) consists of 33 statements (defined by three adjectives each) representing the CAPP symptoms. Participants rated themselves on a 7-point Likert scale, ranging from 1 (not at all characteristic of me) to 7 (very characteristic of me) for each symptom.…”

“…The model was developed in three stages (see Cooke et al, 2004, 2012): First, the authors conducted a comprehensive literature review, including the existing diagnostic criteria outlined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, Text Revision ( DSM–IV–TR ; American Psychiatric Association, 2000); the 10th edition of the International Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems ( ICD-10 ; World Health Organization, 1992); the PCL-R (Hare, 1991, 2003); seminal clinical descriptions provided by the likes of Cleckley (1941), Karpman (1948), McCord and McCord (1964), and Schneider (1958); and the work of influential researchers such as Lykken (1995) and Blackburn (Blackburn & Coid, 1998). Upon deriving a purposefully overinclusive symptom list based upon this literature review, in Stage two of development, semistructured interviews were conducted in Europe and North America with 29 subject matter experts of diverse theoretical backgrounds.…”

“…Such examinations allow researchers to evolve construct knowledge and determine whether measures adequately reflect theory (Cronbach & Meehl, 1955). In line with this process, the present study provides an evaluation of the criterion-related validity and convergence of two contemporary measures indexing the CAPP and TMP models: the Comprehensive Assessment of Psychopathic Personality–Self-Rating Scale (CAPP-SR; Cooke et al, 2004, Cooke, Hart, Logan, & Michie, 2012) and the Triarchic Psychopathy Measure (TriPM; Patrick, 2010). In doing so, we add to the literature by being among the first to explicitly evaluate the convergence of these two measures within a self-identified offender population, and contribute to the growing body of work exploring the test adequacy of both tools and evaluating the theoretical models that support them.…”
