Evaluation and analysis of an enhanced hybrid wireless mesh protocol for vehicular ad hoc network

Abstract: This paper presents a new clustering mechanism for the multi-hop relay in vehicular communication. In the proposed mechanism, the cluster-head selection is implemented using the enhanced hybrid wireless mesh protocol (E-HWMP) protocol, which is based on the IEEE802.11p and IEEE802.11s standards. Then, multi-hop routing is designed for VANET in Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs). Therefore, the main aim of this study is to enhance the integration of VANET with a cellular network (i.e., LTE). As a result, the coverag… Show more

“…The proposed method goes to its highest value, which is 50, as compared to fuzzy-IoT, two fuzzy, and FDMS; for this specific value, the vehicle speed and velocity are the same as other clusters' vehicles. The vehicles leave the cluster if the vehicle moves faster or slower velocity than the other vehicles [78][79][80][81][82][83]. The possibilities of vehicle to reside inside the cluster are more when the value of Fuzzy-IoT is increased.…”

“…In [11], an enhanced hybrid wireless mesh protocol (E-HWMP) protocol was proposed to form multi-hop routing through VANETs, to allow vehicles equipped with 802.11p/802.11s to connect to the Internet via LTE eNodeB. In this protocol, a new scheme of clustering for the multi-hop relay in vehicular communication is implemented.…”

“…Thus, the signal received with power threshold Pth should be, on average, detected at the maximum transmission range R: (10) where, K=Gt Grλ²/(2π)²L is a constant value, λ is the wavelength, Gt and Gr are respectively antenna gains of the transmitter and receiver, and L is the path loss factor, usually set to 1. We substitute each parameter in equation 8 and we finally get: (11) Note that Pr can be calculated if the parameters m and R are available. The inter-vehicle distance d separated two vehicles is used to estimate the parameter m [17].…”

“…Self-management algorithms provide a model capable of improving the operating performance of connected vehicles to the internet, enhancing safety standards, traffic management, and providing various services for internet-based vehicles. The use of AI mechanisms improves data collection processes for various and diverse vehicles connected to the internet and enables modelling techniques for both vehicles and the environment, which helps in deducing the variables that occur on the IoV network [42][43][44]. Recently, AI technologies have provided effective solutions to visualize largescale IoV network that use a very large number of vehicles, sensors, and computing with higher efficient communication capabilities.…”
