Houston, the fourth largest metropolis in the US, currently experiences severe air pollution. Major pollutants, such as VOCs, CO, NO , PM, SO , CH 4 , and CO 2 , are released from the transportation fleets. To decrease fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions from fleet vehicles, more and more biodiesel is used in vehicles in the Houston metropolis. The GREET model was used for simulating the fuel cycle emissions of diesel vehicles using different biodiesel blends in Houston. The fuels examined were dieselbiodiesel blends of B0, B5, B20, B50, B80, and B100. The energy and water use and emissions from vehicles fueled with the blends were investigated. The study shows that the reductions in GHG emissions are significant at the Well-to-Pump stage, and all the emissions, except GHGs and NO , reduce at the Pump-to-Wheel stage. The overall Well-to-Wheel analysis shows that biodiesel is beneficial for both passenger cars and heavy duty trucks. However, the benefits are more pronounced for passenger cars compared to heavy duty vehicles. When 50% of diesel passenger cars and HDDTs are switched to B20 in the Greater Houston area in 2025, the daily GHG emissions will be reduced by 2.0 and 712.1 CO 2 -equivalent tonnes, respectively.

Reduction of fossil fuels and increasing technology made importance of wind generation as renewable energy sources. With increasing number of wind farms fed to grid increases grid fault issues due to various wind systems disconnected from grid during grid faults. To get better grid operation, wind farms are probable to be carried during disturbance related to grid faults extensively known as fault ride through capability. In proposed system a fault ride through method in wind farm management system connected to grid is investigated in term of critical clearing time. This paper examines the use of dynamic voltage restorer on the enhancement of fixed-speed wind generator systems. The controller capability performance, drive performance, and cost factor are considered. Simulation is performed using MATLAB Simulink for constant speed wind generators with closed-loop controller-based DVR are tested. The constant speed drive called synchronous generator-based wind system feed to an infinite bus system. Simulation results show the wind system with DVR has better fault ride-through capability other compensated voltages and is more efficient in minimizing voltage fluctuations called sag/swell and wind generator’s speed. Additionally, DVR aids wind generators to maintain voltage sag/swell with the grid limits requirements with economical as compared to other voltage compensating systems.

This work investigates the experimental study to examine the operation characteristics of a neat neem oil methyl ester (BD100) along with silver oxide nano-particles as a metal-based additive in various mass fractions. Silver oxide nano-particle is mixed into 100% of BD100 at 5 and 10 ppm. The experimental investigation on diesel engine reveals that the addition of silver oxide nano-particles to BD100 resulted in enhancement of brake thermal efficiency (BTE) with a reduction in brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC). The tested emission parameters such as CO, HC, NOx, and smoke were decreased by 12.22, 10.89, 4.24, and 6.61% for BD100+ AgO (5 ppm) and 16.47, 14.21, 6.66, and 8.34% for BD100 respectively when compared to BD100. Overall, improvement in ignition characteristics of the engine was finer by adding 5 and 10 ppm of silver oxide nano-particle to BD100 on account of the enhanced surface area to volume ratio.
