Evaluation of dispatching rules for cellular manufacturing

Abstract: In this paper, the effects of various dispatching rules on the operation and performance of cellular manufacturing systems (CMS) are evaluated. When the study of a CMS considers the automated material handling, it is crucial to reduce the gridlock probability (i.e., the probability of an unsuccessful load transfer attempt occurring in the interface point between the intercell and intracell handling system). Preventing an unsuccessful load transfer is critical for the operation of the entire system as a blockag… Show more

“…Kızıl's team raised a dispatching rule that maintains the system operational at all times. 13 Currently, the AGV dispatching strategy could be one AGV chosen to respond to work center's service when only one work center applies service and other AGVs are free. The AGV dispatching strategy could also be a work center serviced by AGV when only one AGV and more work centers apply service at one time.…”

“…Thus, a lot of research effort has been made on the selection of dispatching rules with respect to three or four production objectives (Geiger et al, 2006;El-Bouri and Shah, 2006;Azadeh et al, 2012;Mouelhi-Chibani and Pierreval, 2010;Shiue, 2009;Baykasoglu et al, 2010;Scholz-Reiter et al, 2010;Heger et al, 2015;Chen et al, 2012;El-Bouri and Amin, 2015;Lin et al, 2008;Azadeh et al, 2015;Liu and Dong, 1996;Kızıl et al, 2006;Zhong et al, 2014;Shafiq et al, 2010;Joseph and Sridharan, 2011;Kashfi and Javadi, 2015).…”
