Evaluation of Distributed Generation and Electric Vehicles Hosting Capacity in Islanded DC Grids Considering EV Uncertainty

Abstract: Current power systems are undergoing an energy transition, where technological elements such as distributed generation and electric vehicles through AC or DC microgrids are important elements to face this transition. This paper presents a methodology for quantifying distributed resource-based generation and the number of electric vehicles that can be connected to isolated DC grids without impacting the safe operation of these networks. The methodology evaluates the maximum capacity of distributed generation co… Show more

“…Authors in [208] calculated the DN HC of both PV-based DG and EV demand simultaneously in four energy management cases: (i) uncontrolled scenario, (ii) controlling EVs charging only, (iii) with APC of PV units only, and (iv) with both EVs charging control and APC of PV units. Considering the uncertainty of EVs, authors in [210] assessed the maximum DG-HC and EV-HC simultaneously in an islanded DC grid.…”

“…The objectives consist of peak shaving, minimizing the microgrid operational costs and an EV prioritization strategy that extends the battery lifetime, while utilizing the resources fully. The authors in [33] combined an optimization approach with a Monte Carlo simulation to estimate the hosting capacity of isolated DC microgrids with DG and EVs. However, the proposed hybrid methodology is computationally expensive when increasing the number of nodes of the grid and the number of EVs.…”
