Evaluation of Ground Potential Rises in a Commercial Building During a Direct Lightning Stroke Using CDEGS

Abstract: This paper utilizes CDEGS software to calculate the transient ground potential rise (GPR) in a commercial building with a base of 39 m x 13 m and a height of 21 m during direct lightning strokes. The influences of soil resistivity, location of the lightning strike point, and waveshape of the lightning current on the transient GPRs of three scenarios for the building are analyzed. Such scenarios within the building include devices are grounded independently, devices are grounded via vertical ground electrodes t… Show more

“…The performance of the proposed hybrid approach was examined attentively in comparison with the results from ANN, and SVR and ANFIS models optimized by two other robust and efficient metaheuristic optimization algorithms; namely, the cuckoo search optimization algorithm (CSA) and the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. Moreover, the obtained results are further validated by the observed data from the Current Distribution, Electromagnetic Interference, Grounding and Soil Structure Analysis (CDEGS) program developed by Safe Engineering Services & technologies (SES) company [32].…”
