Evaluation of Nutritional Value, Fatty Acids and Polyphenols Profiles of <i>Pyrus amygdaliformis</i> L. Grown in North-East Kurdistan Regional Government, Iraq

Abstract

Antioxidants help improve the body s antioxidant defense mechanism to regulate, prevent, or treat diseases. The oils included in the seeds of such plants have been applied for bodily strengthening since ancient times. In addition, they have historically been used as a diuretic 6,7) . The profile of bioactive chemicals in oils is influenced by the Rosaceae family s species and variety (genotype) . Linoleic acid (C18:2) was found to be more abundant in pear seed oil fatty acids than in most commonly used culinary oils 8) . Other fatty acids found in pear seeds include palmitic, palmitoleic, stearic, and alpha-linolenic acids 8) . P. amygdaliformis have spread in the north and northwest of Kurdistan regional government, Iraq, and consumed nuts. Considering the significant economic value of wild pears, it is critical to understand their nutritional composition. The primary goal of this research was to assess metabolites content linked with health benefits and sensory qualities of leaves and fruits of P. amygdaliformis. This study will provide supportive information to develop pear-based functional foods with better health benefits.
