Evaluation of reproductive performance in sows of Prestice Black-Pied pig - Czech genetic resource

Abstract: The aim of the study was to evaluate reproductive performance in selected sows of Prestice Black-Pied pig included in Czech genetic resources and also to analyse losses of piglets and culling of sows according to parity order. The experimental work was conducted in a nucleic herd of sows registered in breeding book. A total of 88 sows were included in the observation. Findings indicate that productive parameters of Prestice Black-Pied sows are comparable to productive parameters of modern genotype sows. The re… Show more

“…Our findings correspond to the results of Segura et al [ 17 ], who evaluated reproductive performance in F1 sows (Large White × Landrace) from the first to the sixth parity, which confirms that current hybrid sows are characterized by higher uniformity in reproductive parameters, regardless of parity. However, this trend was the opposite in pure breeds with significant differences in the number of live-born and reared piglets [ 5 , 18 , 19 ]. All the studies mentioned above are in accordance with our findings that the first parity sows had the lowest total numbers of piglets when compared to later parities.…”

“…The pigs of this breed have a black coat with a white saddle and lop ears [50]. They are characterized by longevity, strong body build, and good adaptability [112][113][114][115]. Black-Spotted Prestice sows have been shown to have moderate fertility (8.16 piglets born alive) [112], a very calm temperament, a high milk yield, and strong maternal instincts [116,117].…”
