Evaluation of Trace Metal Content by ICP-MS Using Closed Vessel Microwave Digestion in Fresh Water Fish

Abstract: The objective of the present study was to investigate trace metal levels of different varieties of fresh water fish using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrophotometer after microwave digestion (MD-ICPMS). Fish samples were collected from the outlets of twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The trace metal content in different varieties of analyzed fish were ranged from 0.24 to 1.68 mg/kg for Chromium in Cyprinus carpio and Masto symbollon, 0.20 to 7.52 mg/kg for Manganese in Labeo rohita and Masto sy… Show more

“…Human and animal bodies contain a certain quantity of trace elements, mostly located in the liver, bones and blood. Enzymes like arginase, mitochondrial superoxide dismutase, cholinesterase, phosphoglucomutase, pyruvate carboxylase and several phosphates, peptidases and glycosyltransferases function with aid of these elements as co-factors ( Jarapala, Kandlakunta & Thingnganing , 2014 ). Trace elements are minute in quantity, yet play a vital role in biochemical processes.…”

“…Tissue digestion was carried out as previously described [19]. Briefly, approximately 0.1 g of tissue or 500 μL of serum acquired from each animal was added to a mixture of ultrapure-grade nitric acid and H 2 O 2 at a ratio of 6:1 for digestion using a microwave digester (Anton Paar, Austria) [20]. Before the procedure was conducted, all glassware used were rinsed and soaked in 10% (v/v) HNO 3 overnight.…”

“…Fish are a source of mineral elements such as calcium, phosphorous and magnesium [ 3 ]. Trace elements of Zn, Cu and Se can also be found in fish tissue [ 4 ]. Zn, Cu and Se are micronutrients that are essential for the functioning of the human body and therefore must be included in human diets.…”
