In surface engineering, new coatings and deposition techniques for decreasing wear have been proposed. However, the tribological behaviors of these coatings under lubricated sliding with biodegradable oils are unknown. The objective of this study was to evaluate the tribological behaviors of two hydraulic biodegradable oils, namely hydraulic environmental ester oil synthetic (HEES) and hydraulic oil environmental polyalphaolefin (HEPR), with hydraulic mineral oil (HLP), using a pin-on-disk tribometer. In the sliding tests, a Cu-35Zn sphere against a flat surface is coated with WC-10Co4Cr alloy using a HVOF thermal spray. The Stribeck curve was used to evaluate the performances of the lubricants. The coefficient of friction, the contact pressure, and the film thickness were determined. In addition, the coefficient of wear of the sphere was evaluated, and the oil with the lowest value was identified, which was HEPR in this case. In long-term tests, HEPR was affected by the stick-slip phenomenon, which increased the coefficients of friction and wear. Furthermore, the mechanism of adhesion of the sphere on the disk was more evident with the use of HEES compared to HLP. The highest concentrations of Zn and P and the pressure-viscosity coefficient value, which was detected in the mineral oil, caused friction reduction and lower damage to the surfaces. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the tribological conditions of synthetic bio-lubricants for applications in hydraulic systems.

A test bench for biodegradable hydraulic oils generates pressure surges by cyclic pressure loading. The parameters of these pressure surges (maximum pressure, amplitude, frequency etc.) are defined by the characteristics of the pressure valve and pipe line system. The response of the hydraulic system was recorded and studied in the case of four test bench modifications by comparing the maximum pressure, maximum pressure increase and the opening time of the pressure valve. The test bench with steel pipe between the hydraulic pump and pressure valve shows the highest maximum pressure increase (4.28 MPa). The opening times of pressure valve were measured for the evaluation of dynamic stability of the test bench. In case of all test bench modifications the opening time of pressure valve did not exceed the calculated limit value. The experiments were also aimed at the response of hydraulic system to three different frequencies (1.5 Hz, 2.5 Hz and 5 Hz) of cyclic pressure loading. Increasing the frequency only minimally increases the maximum pressure during the pressure surge. On the other hand, it increases maximum amplitude after the maximum pressure depending up to frequency of cyclic pressure loading. Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) confirms the facts mention above.

Three filtration systems using the tractor hydraulic circuit were proposed and verified during the tractors operation. Using the tractor-implement hydraulic system and filter body with accessories the universally useful filtration systems were designed. The designed filtration systems are the second stage of universal oil filtration whereas the first stage is the standard tractor filter. The decrease in the content of iron reached the values 25.53 %, 32.95 % and 41.55 % and the average decrease in oil contamination characterized by average value of decrease in content of iron, copper and silicium reached values 24.3 %, 24.7 % and 35.53 % in dependence on the filtration system and an oil contamination level. The decrease in contamination level verified the ability of designed filtration systems for agricultural tractors.
