Evaluation of vibration damping behavior of different sizes of waste tyre rubber in natural rubber composites

Abstract: The different sizes of waste tyre rubber particles and precipitated silica-filled natural rubber composites were investigated to evaluate the vibration damping behavior of the waste tyre rubber filled rubber composites. In this work, waste tyre rubber particles prepared in three different sizes (100–250, 550–700, and 1000–1150 µm) using ambient grinding process. Then the particles blended with natural rubber and silica compounds, and the blend was synthesized by two roll mill and hydraulic press vulcanization.… Show more

“…This poor interaction is responsible for the loss in the dynamic modulus of elasticity per unit weight of rubber mix concrete. Loss of the dynamic modulus has a direct bearing on the natural frequency and accordingly, the natural frequency decreases with an increased curing period [22][23].…”

“…Portella et al. 46 studied the mechanical properties of cotton-glass fiber hybrid polyester composites along with DMA. The higher reinforcement effects noted with [G/C/] sequence as compared to [C/G/G] and [G/C/C]s. Nevertheless, a lower peak height of loss modulus is resulted with [G/C/C] sequence composites.…”

“…Highest natural frequency and damping factor are found at 8% red mud addition. Chandran et al 47 fabricated silica-filled natural rubber composites with different sizes (100-250, 550-700, and 1000-1150 mm) and variable weight fractions of waste tire rubber (WTR) particles to investigate the vibration damping behavior. For large size WTR-filled NRCs showed higher damping factor and lower natural frequency compared to medium and small size fillers.…”

“…Bueno [11] added waste tire rubber particles into asphalt pavement, evaluated the vibration reduction effect, and considered that crumb rubber asphalt pavement had greater porosity, so it had a good noise reduction effect. Chandran [12] compared the specimens made of three sizes of rubber particles, and the results showed that the specimens mixed with large size of rubber particles had better damping performance and damping characteristics.…”
