Abstract:Speciation occurs when gene pools differentiate between populations, but that differentiation is heterogeneous across the genome. Understanding what parts of the genome are more prone to differentiation is a key mission in evolutionary biology because it can identify genomic regions and evolutionary processes central to the speciation process. Here, we study genomic variation among three closely related species of North American woodpecker: red-breasted, red-naped, and yellow-bellied sapsuckers. We construct a… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
