Evolution and Emerging Trends in Depression Research From 2004 to 2019: A Literature Visualization Analysis

Abstract: Depression has become a major threat to human health, and researchers around the world are actively engaged in research on depression. In order to promote closer research, the study of the global depression knowledge map is significant. This study aims to map the knowledge map of depression research and show the current research distribution, hotspots, frontiers, and trends in the field of depression research, providing researchers with worthwhile information and ideas. Based on the Web of Science core collect… Show more

“…In this bibliometric analysis, most of the relevant articles were published by corresponding authors from several countries such as the USA, China, Germany, and the UK. Similar patterns have been found in bibliometric studies in other fields such as depression ( 33 ), bipolar disorders ( 34 ), and general neuropharmacology ( 35 ). Academic capability is largely determined by the economic status of a country ( 36 ).…”

“…Is the increase in publications regarding AF and depression associated with a general increase in publications in the field of AF or depression? According to the bibliometric studies, we can learn about that the annual publication of AF or depression had increased steadily year by year from 2015 to 2018, but there is no rapid growth period ( 19 , 20 ). From this point of view, the sharp increase in the number of annual publication on AF and depression in recent years may not be entirely related to the increase in the publication of AF or depression, but it may be because scientists pay more attention to the association between on AF and depression.…”

“…Currently, global trends in ECT for depressive disorders are unclear. Bibliometrics is a comprehensive analysis method, which can fill this gap by analyzing publications to qualitatively and quantitatively assess the contributions of countries, institutions, and authors in the field and predict future research trends ( Chen et al, 2014 ; Wang et al, 2021 ). This study aims at investigating global research trends in ECT for depressive disorders over the past 10 years and at predicting future research hotspots within the field through bibliometric and visual analysis.…”
