Evolution of Bystander Intention to Perform Resuscitation Since Last Training: Web-Based Survey

Abstract: Background Victims of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) have higher survival rates and more favorable neurological outcomes when basic life support (BLS) maneuvers are initiated quickly after collapse. Although more than half of OHCAs are witnessed, BLS is infrequently provided, thereby worsening the survival and neurological prognoses of OHCA victims. According to the theory of planned behavior, the probability of executing an action is strongly linked to the intention of performing it. This i… Show more

“…Subjective norm is the result of a person's view of his behavior (normative belief) in which he or she combines motivation and goals to adjust behavior to adapt to social norms prevailing in the environment. The results of this study are similar to previous studies showing that subjective norms are positively related to intentions (6,12,13). However, the research results are different from the research conducted by Permatasari (2016) which shows that subjective norms are not associated with intention (14).…”

“…These results support the theory of planned behavior which states that a positive attitude will appear when someone believes that the action or behavior that will be carried out has a positive impact and vice versa. This supports previous research which explains that attitudes are strongly and positively related to respondents' intentions in carrying out a behavior (6,(8)(9)(10)(11).…”

“…Although electronic learning (e-learning) interventions might be ineffective in teaching complex technical procedures ([ 17 , 26 ]; Stuby et al, unpublished data, 2021), they are nevertheless useful in increasing knowledge and their use is generally associated with a high level of learner satisfaction [ 27 - 29 ]. As the probability of executing an action is strongly linked to the intention of performing it (according to the theory of planned behavior [ 30 , 31 ]), an engaging serious game could enhance the dissemination of essential IPC guidelines and encourage LTCF employees to change their behavior regarding IPC practices [ 29 , 32 , 33 ].…”
