Ewing's sarcoma of the hip: A case report with no evidence of tumor recurrence and literature review

Abstract: Background Ewing's sarcoma (ES) of the hip and trochanteric region is a rare malignancy. The tumor has a poor prognosis due to the problems in early diagnosis and medical intervention. Case presentation This paper reports a rare case of hip ES presented in a 34y/o female. The clinical, radiological, and histopathological features were all in favor of ES. Following treatment by neoadjuvant/adjuvant chemotherapy, and irradiation the patient is now with complete resolution… Show more

“…It seems that the occurrence of metastasis, which can be overt or subclinical, seems to be a recurring phenomenon in almost all patients. Such metastatic sites can also be quite distant and rare from the primary site of the tumor, including small bowel, oral cavity, pancreas, spine, and orbital cavities among others (57)(58)(59)(60)(61)(62)(63)(64)(65). In a dramatic presentation, ES/ PNET metastasized into the jejunum causing intussusception, one of the most life-threatening chirurgical emergency (65).…”

“…Metastases are detected in 25% of the patients at the time of diagnosis and predominately manifest in the lungs, followed by bone or rather bone marrow [11][12][13]. Among patients with metastatic disease, pulmonary metastases are associated with a better outcome than extrapulmonary [1,[13][14][15][16][17][18]. In the past decades, the outcome in localized EwS has been improved due to the implementation of a multimodal therapeutic approach with systemic chemotherapy in combination with local therapy (LT), while disseminated disease and relapse are linked to low survival rates [1,14,16,[19][20][21][22].…”
