The percentage of residents with a positive WTP changed from 29.7% before the event to 39.3% immediately after the event, while average WTP increased significantly from €3.58 to €4.45, leading to an increase of residents' valuation from €5.8 million to €7.1 … Show more

Thus, consumption capital could induce preferences in favor of hosting a mega-event ( 31 , 32 ). In addition, factors such as pride or identification with the region must be taken into account when hosting major sporting events.…”

“…When the year was not reported, we proxied the year using the year that was two years before the study was published. Although the ex post estimation is not the only method for adjusting WTP values to inflation rates [ 27 ], it has been suggested as the preferred method [ 28 ] and has been used previously [ 29 ]. All effect sizes imported in the analysis were standardised to a single measurement unit (per kilogram), as mass was the most reported measure used across the studies.…”

“…Many studies that examined the populations' endorsement of their home country hosting the Olympic Games [4][5][6]20 focused on the economic impact; only a few examined the effects of individual value perceptions on this endorsement 7 . Koenigstorfer and Preuss 8 stated that value perceptions influence whether individuals in the host country believe the Olympic Games are beneficial (positively) or not beneficial (negatively), and whether they are willing to support the hosting Olympic Games.…”
