“…All crystal sides, except the one at contact with the photodetector, have been polished and covered with a white reflective coating, consisting of 0.2 mm thickness of Barium sulfate (BaSO 4 ), to obtain the best light output. According to the manufacturing company Epic-Crystal [19], the light yield is about 50 kph/MeV, the density is 6.63 g/cm 3 and the time response is only 90 ns, it is not hygroscopic and has not self-activity background. The crystal has been coupled using optical grease to Hamamatsu R6231-01 PMT [20] (quantum efficiency of 10% at GaGG:Ce peak emission, 540 nm), considered as the gold standard for spectrometry, and to four Hamamatsu S14161-6050HS-04 SiPM array modules [20].…”

“…The availability of small-sized devices can bring great advantages both for diagnostic and therapeutic applications. In recent past, researchers and manufacturers have been dedicated to develop a wide range of small hand-held or portable systems for medical gamma imaging, designed to provide high resolutions for specific procedures [1][2][3][4][5][6]. These improvements have been possible thanks to advances both in the production of increasingly efficient and sensitive scintillation crystals and in the recent developments of compact and lightweight silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) array modules [7].…”

“…The salient feature of the current experiment is the use of a large volume, cylindrical ( 3.5 "×6 " ) LaBr 3 :Ce detector. The significantly superior properties of the LaBr 3 :Ce crystals over other scintillators are responsible for growing application of these crystals, namely, in nuclear spectroscopy [18], astronomical measurements [19,20], medical imaging [21,22], geological applications [23,24] etc. The properties of the detector, used in the present work, such as linearity, resolution (energy and time), detection efficiency for gamma rays in the energy range of few hundred keV to 22.5 MeV have been measured by the authors and can be found in Ref.…”

“…In addition lutetium based crystals provide an undesired high self-activity background (LYSO, LuAP, LuYAP). On the other hand, the cerium-doped lanthanum crystals like the LaCl 3 :Ce and LaBr 3 :Ce seem promising for nuclear medicine imaging, having high light yield, fast decay time, great energy and spatial resolutions, but have the disadvantage to be highly hygroscopic [2][3][4][5].…”

“…Crytur company has recently developed two different types of these new crystals: CRY018 and CRY019. CRY018 crystal has a density of 4.5 g/cm 3 , decay time of 45 ns and detection of 425 nm wavelength. CRY019 crystal has density of 7.1 g/cm 3 , 46 ns decay time and detection of 420 nm wavelength.…”
