Excitation transfer between optically injected microdisk lasers

Abstract: Abstract:Recently, we have theoretically demonstrated that optically injected microdisk lasers can be tuned in a class I excitable regime, where they are sensitive to both inhibitory and excitatory external input pulses. In this paper, we propose, using simulations, a topology that allows the disks to react on excitations from other disks. Phase tuning of the intermediate connections allows to control the disk response. Additionally, we investigate the sensitivity of the disk circuit to deviations in driving c… Show more

“…In some recent cases, cascadability is used to refer to a single feedforward connection [45,50,82,83], but we argue that this approach does not conclusively demonstrate indefinite physical cascadability. The format of the upstream input can be different than that of the downstream output such that the second might not be able to drive the first.…”

“…An investigation of photonics for information processing based on spikes has taken place alongside the development of electronic spiking architectures. Since the first demonstration of photonic spike processing by Rosenbluth et al [68], there has been a surge in research related to aspects of spike processing in various photonic devices with a recent bloom of proposed forms of spiking dynamics [57,[69][70][71][72][73][74][75][76][77][78][79][80][81]]-a strategy that could lead to combined computation and communication in the same substrate.…”

“…Cascadability has been proposed and numerically demonstrated in both optically [44,66] and electrically [39,58,60] injected lasers. Cascadability in optically injected PNNs presents a challenge because optical interference is sensitive to optical phase noise.…”
