Exciton Spin-Splitting in InxGa1—xAs Quantum Wires and Dots

Abstract: We have investigated the dependence of the splitting between the σ+ and the σ— polarized spectral lines of the ground state exciton transitions in InxGa1—xAs quantum wires and dots on the structure size by photoluminescence spectroscopy in magnetic fields up to B = 8 T. We find a drastic increase of the energy difference between these two lines with decreasing structure size which depends on the dimensionality of the structure.
