Exogenous Bioactive Peptides Have a Potential Therapeutic Role in Delaying Aging in Rodent Models

Abstract: In recent years, some exogenous bioactive peptides have been shown to have promising anti-aging effects. These exogenous peptides may have a mechanism similar to endogenous peptides, and some can even regulate the release of endogenous active peptides and play a synergistic role with endogenous active peptides. Most aging studies use rodents that are easy to maintain in the laboratory and have relatively homogenous genotypes. Moreover, many of the anti-aging studies using bioactive peptides in rodent models on… Show more

“…Currently, only the ROS, MDA, and antioxidant enzyme activities of the two peptides are measured, while the cellular antioxidant mechanism and pathway exploration are not involved. Meanwhile, animal models are able to mimic human physiology and pathology, as well as long-term safety and potential side effects [52]. The final clinical studies are a crucial stage in assessing the genuine effectiveness and safety of peptides in humans, which can objectively evaluate the antioxidant effects of peptides in humans and whether they can improve the symptoms of related diseases [53].…”

“…Several studies prove that interfering peptides alter cellular processes [155,[164][165][166]. Peptides can be produced in several ways, the simplest being procuring naturally occurring peptides [167]. Another method is to develop large numbers of peptides synthetically and then screen them to evaluate their therapeutic potential.…”

“…Активность пептидов основана на их аминокислотном составе и последовательности, они проявляют свои свойства только высвобождаясь из белка-предшественника, в котором они зашифрованы. Такие экзогенные пептиды могут иметь механизм, сходный с эндогенными пептидами, а некоторые из них могут даже регулировать высвобождение эндогенных активных пептидов и играть синергетическую роль [32].…”
