Exosome-Enriched Plasma Analysis as a Tool for the Early Detection of Hypertensive Gestations

Abstract: Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are closely associated with prematurity, stillbirth, and maternal morbidity and mortality. The onset of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) is generally noticed after the 20th week of gestation, limiting earlier intervention. The placenta is directly responsible for modulating local and systemic physiology by communicating using mechanisms such as the release of extracellular vesicles, especially exosomes. In this study, we postulated that an analysis of exosome-enrich… Show more

“… 68 Furthermore, Weingrill et al found that plasma EVs could also be used to provide an initial assessment of placental function and to develop diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of gestational hypertension. 88 Notably, for ST elevation myocardial infarction, evidence has demonstrated that plasma EVs in patients contain more lipid molecules, revealing possible biomarkers and signal transduction mechanisms. 69 …”

“…It is now common knowledge that they are important mediators of intercellular communication under both normal and diseased conditions [ 49 ]. In more detail, the mediation of exosomes regulates a wide variety of physiologic processes: skin regeneration [ 50 ], bone remodeling [ 51 ], placental formation [ 52 ], and organ crosstalk during exercise [ 53 ]. It also serves as a diagnostic and predictive biomarker in inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis [ 54 ], systemic lupus erythematosus [ 55 ], and nephropathies [ 56 ].…”
