SUMMARYTo achieve overall business goals, GQM+Strategies is one approach that aligns business goals at each level of an organization to strategies and assesses the achievement of goals. Strategies are based on rationales (contexts and assumptions). Because extracting all rationales is an important process in the GQM+Strategies approach, we propose the Context-Assumption-Matrix (CAM), which refines the GQM+Strategies model by extracting rationales based on analyzing the relationships between stakeholders, and the process of using GQM+Strategies with CAM effectively. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the CAM and the defined process, we conducted three experiments involving students majoring in information sciences at two different Japanese universities. Moreover, we applied the GQM+Strategies approach with CAM to the Recruit Sumai Company in Japan. The results reveal that compared to GQM+Strategies alone, GQM+Strategies with CAM can extract rationales of the same quality more efficiently and exhaustively.

Abstract. Modern high-performing software product development organizations are nowadays more and more often transforming their operations towards continuous higher-level ends. In general, customer satisfaction (CS) is such a goal. This paper presents an approach of gauging and improving customer satisfaction in an industrial B2B product development project organization for continuous customer experience (CX) management. In order to do that, the Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) used in the company was systematized with an applied impact analysis technique. The resulting artifact (called CSI Impact Mapping Grid) combines a set of satisfier improvement strategies derived from our initial work with the GQM + Strategies method coupled with the company assets (capabilities) and insights. It is furthermore aimed to be integrated with rich online measurement inputs for real-time predictive feedback. Such transparency across the whole organization enables employees to realize and insightfully support − even proactively in real time − the various cause-effect relationships of the CS/CX.

Context: A recent approach for measurement program planning, GQM + Strategies, provides an important extension to existing approaches linking measurements and improvement activities to strategic goals and ways to achieve these goals. There is a need for instruments aiding in eliciting information from stakeholders to use GQM + Strategies. The success of GQM + Strategies highly depends on accurately identifying goals, strategies and information needs from stakeholders.Objective: The research aims at providing an instrument (called GQM + S-EI), aiding practitioners to accurately elicit information needed by GQM + Strategies (capturing goals, strategies and information needs).Method: The research included two phases. In the first phase, using action research method, the GQM + S-EI was designed in three iterations in Ericsson AB. Thereafter, a case study was conducted to evaluate whether the information elicited with the designed instrument following the defined process was accurate and complete. Results:We identified that the industry requires elicitation instruments that are capable to elicit information from stakeholders, not having to know about the concepts (e.g. goals and strategies). The case study results showed that our proposed instrument is capable of accurately and completely capturing the needed information from the stakeholders.Conclusions: We conclude that GQM + S-EI can be used for accurately and completely eliciting the information needed by goal driven measurement frameworks. The instrument has been successfully transferred to Ericsson AB for measurement program planning.
