Experimental and modeling studies in fixed-bed char gasification

Abstract: The solubility data of monocarboxylic acids in one-component solvents reported in the literature were described by using five two-parameter correlation equations (namely the Redllch-Kister equation, the van Laar equation, and three versions of the Wilson equation). The description is found to be generally satisfactory when one of the Wilson equations taking into account the temperature dependence of A,y parameters Is employed.

“…The temperature profile measured inside the gasifier was compared with the numerical predicted data. Bhattacharya et al [6] presented a moving bed gasifier model and compared the predicted results against those of a bench scale reactor. They considered shrinking core model for particle reaction and equilibrium at each height for shift reaction.…”

“…As part of research and development, many researchers have reported their results on temperature profiles, product gas composition, reaction zone propagation rates etc., in the gasifier bed for different types of biomass. Bhattacharya et al (1986) experimentally analyzed coal char gasification in a bench-scale, throat-less, cylindrical reactor and obtained temperature profile along the gasifier axis. Khater et al (1992) studied the gasification of rice hulls in a throat-less, downdraft gasifier and measured the bed temperatures at five locations along the gasifier axis.…”

“…Yu et al (1983) extended Yoon's model to two space dimensions. More recent models include the one-dimensional, steady-state model of Earl and Islam (1985) and the two-dimensional, transient models of Thorsness and Kang (1986) and Bhattacharya et al (1986). Khanna and Seinfeld (1987) discussed recent advances in catalytic fixed-bed reactor models which have many of the features of coal gasification/combustion fixed-bed models discussed earlier.…”
