The recycling of copper coil into finished products via sand casting with subsequent cold extrusion was investigated. This paper examined the effects of cold extrusion on the mechanical properties of the scrapped copper coil using a locally manufactured extruder with a conventional face die. The mechanical properties tested on the extrudates are limited to hardness, tensile, and compressive strength. The results reveal that the hardness of extruded copper of 11.10 mm and 11.45 mm improved significantly by 39 % and 41 %, respectively, compared with respective non-extruded copper. The compressive and tensile strength increases by 42 % and 22 %, respectively, for 11.10 mm extruded copper compared with the corresponding non-extruded copper. Also, the elongation of the extruded copper of 11.10 mm and 11.45 mm increases by 33 % and 34 %, respectively. It was deduced that the extruded copper is more ductile than the non-extruded copper. The micrograph reveals that grains in non-extruded copper are relatively coarse and nonuniform with voids, but fine and relatively uniform grains are obtained in extruded copper. The grains are refined during cold extrusion, and voids and dislocations are reduced significantly.

This study aims to determine the effect of the mold casting duct variations on shrinkage, porosity defects, density, hardness, and chemical composition of materials. The primary raw material uses melting secondary aluminium through a small-scale smelting furnace. Research study about three kinds of ducts: triangular duct, rectangular duct, and circular duct. The testing chemical composition uses an emission spectrometer. Research founds defects by comparing the dimensions of the original object with the specimen results of each duct variation. The density value calculates porosity defects. ASTM E10 standard Brinell test measures the hardness. Besides, ASTM E3 standard test quantifies the microstructure of the product. The highest average shrinkage is the triangular ducts at 3.68%. The least significant numbers of porosity were in rectangular ducts of 2.964 gr/ml. Higher the density value, the denser the material, and the more negligible the porosity. The density of the material affects the hardness material obtained from the results of the Brinell test. The hardness of the Brinell test brought that the rectangular duct with 102.5 BHN was the most enormous. In addition, the results showed that the chemical composition mainly contained mostly chemical elements (Al) 87.1% as the main chemical ingredient and (Si) 9.51%.

Bu makalede enerji sektöründe yaygın olarak kullanılan bir komponente ait kum kalıba döküm prosesinde yolluk tasarımına bağlı olarak hatasız bir ürün elde edilmesine yönelik döküm simülasyon işlemleri ve bu işlemlerin gerçek döküm uygulamasına ait çalışmalar gerçekleştirilmiştir. Döküm ürününün geometrisine uygun yolluk ve tahliye sistemi tasarımı yapılmıştır. Solidworks ile tasarım simülasyonları gerçekleştirilmesini takiben Anycasting simülasyon programı ile katılaşma analizi, dolum analizi, sıcaklık dağılımı ve makro-mikro çekinti simülasyonları gerçekleştirilmiştir. Simülasyon sonuçlarına bağlı yolluk ve tahliye mekanizması güncellenmiştir. İki farklı yolluk ve tahliye sistemi için yapılan simülasyon sonuçları incelenerek birbirleri ile karşılaştırılmış bu sonuçlar gerçek döküm malzemeleri ile mukayese edilmiştir. Simülasyon sonuçları döküm prosesinde yolluk tasarımının ürün kalitesine doğrudan etkili olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Yolluk tasarımına bağlı olarak, makro ve mikro çekinti, dolum süresi ve akış hızı değerlerinin azaldığı görülmüştür. Simülasyon sonuçları ile döküm prosesi esnasında oluşabilecek kusurlu parça üretimi ve yanlış kalıp tasarımının önüne geçilmesi ve parça başı üretim maliyetlerinin azaltılması mümkün olabilecektir.
