This research presents the development of environmentally-friendly and energy efficient refrigerant for medium temperature refrigeration systems that new azeotropic refrigerant mixture of hydrofluorocarbons and hydrocarbon that can retrofit in the refrigeration system using R404A. The medium back pressure refrigeration testing standard that follow CAN/ANSI/AHRI540 standard air-conditioning, heating, and refrigeration institute (AHRI) and The properties of refrigerants and refrigeration simulation system that used national institute of standards and technology (NIST) reference fluid thermodynamic and transport properties database (REFPROP) software and NIST vapor compression cycle model accounting for refrigerant thermodynamic and transport properties (CYCLE_D-HX) software. The methodology use decision tree function in datamining by rapid minor software that first of KDnuggets annual software poll that showed new azeotropic refrigerant mixture had cooling capacity, refrigerant effect, GWP and boiling point were lower than R404A but work and pressure for medium temperature refrigeration system of azeotropic refrigerant mixture were higher than R404A. The artificial intelligence (AI) by data mining technic can predictive environmentally-friendly and energy efficient refrigerant for medium temperature refrigeration. The result of refrigerant mixed by R134A, R32, R125 and R1270 and is consistent with the evolution of fourth-generation refrigerants that contain a mixture of HFCs and HCs which are required to produce a low-GWP, zero-ozone-depletionpotential (ODP), high-capacity, low-operating-pressure, and nontoxic refrigerant.

In this paper the most promising developments of technology for gas engine-driven heat pumps for the last 15 years are presented. The purpose is to present the latest research studies and changes in this type of device, as well as to help readers to search for publications containing relevant aspects of gas engine heat pumps. Gas engine-driven heat pumps are devices for parallel heating and cooling production based on compressor heat pump technology. However, unlike heat pumps with compressors powered by electric motors, gas engine-driven heat pumps are driven by gas internal combustion engines. The reviewed solutions are an interesting alternative to traditional heating systems, characterized by the higher than 1.0 Performance Energy Ratio which expresses the degree of conversion of the energy contained in the fuel supplied to the device into energy transported to the utility needs. Presented in this review, papers show different solutions for conversion of the energy contained in the fuel into mechanical and thermal energy, and mechanical energy through the shaft system is used to drive the compressor of the heat pump. The presented study shows that, due to the complexity of the system and the wide range of applications, the technology has been subjected to detailed analyses and optimizations during the last 30 years in order to increase the efficiency of devices.

Gas Engine-Driven Heat Pumps for Small-Scale Applications: State-of-the-Art and Future Perspectives

Gas engine-driven heat pumps are an interesting option to satisfy space heating and cooling demands aiming at energy saving, environmental impact and operating costs’ reduction. This work presents (i) a comprehensive review updated on gas engine-driven heat pumps research activities, (ii) the investigation of the central role of this technology in the air conditioning sector and (iii) the future perspectives regarding gas engine heat pumps’ diffusion in the context of the energy sector decarbonisation. The outcomes highlight that gas engine heat pumps could have better environmental performance compared to electric heat pumps both in heating and cooling operations. Moreover, they could play a pivotal role in the fight against climate change and energy security since they can guarantee an energy mix differentiation moving from electricity to natural gas and renewable gases’ usage. Indeed, by 2030, a lower-carbon gas grid could be supported by renewable gases. A further investigation has concerned diffusion of gas heat pumps activated from biofuels produced by local biomass in an energy community scenario based on a low-temperature energy district network. A novel biomass-based GEHP interacting with a low-temperature district heating network is proposed here. This system could save more than 30% of primary energy compared to biomass-fuelled boilers.
