Experimental study on the burning behaviors of three typical thermoplastic materials liquid pool fire with different mass feeding rates

Abstract: Nowadays, thermoplastic materials, which represent a risk of the high melt flow fire spread, are widely used in construction industry. The flow of thermoplastic's melt drips will accelerate the downward flame spread and fall into the pool fires which appears at the foot of the wall fires. Fire will develop to larger and larger soon because of the wall fires and pool fires mutual enhancement mechanism. In this paper, a new experimental setup is used to quantitatively analyze the burning characteristics of pool … Show more

“…The connection between the burning rate and the two terms can be approximately summarized by equation (1) 5 where m , λ, T, σ, ks and l f are the total mass loss, the conduction of the coefficient of heat transfer, the constant proposed by Stefan–Boltzmann, the temperature, the absorption coefficient of soot and the flame mean beam length, respectively. Gong 15 conducted experiments to determine the relationship between the burning rate of PMMA and the ambient pressure in conjunction with a downward flame spread and a sample width of 20 cm.…”

“…In high-rise building fires, the PE molten droplets drip down in the vertical direction and initiate the exterior insulation material of the lower floors [22]. Therefore, molten droplets play an important role in the spreading of high-rise building fires.…”

“…In the era of highly developed building industry and energy industry, the insulation materials are frequently used. Some studies have been conducted on polyurethane foam materials [4]- [8]. The density of polyurethane foam has a certain influence on the spread of combustion, and the combustion rate varies with the location of the fire.…”
