Experimental tests of a new theory of gravitation

Abstract: The predictions for the perihelion shift, the deflection of light, and the delay time of a light ray are calculated in the nonsymrnetric theory of gravitation. An upper bound for the parameter /(that occurs as a constant of integration in the static, spherically symmetric solution of the field equations) is obtained for the sun for the experimental value of the perihelion shift of Mercury, yielding (lol I (2.92 f 0.10) x lo3 krn. The upper bound on llol obtained from the Viking spacecraft time-delay experiment… Show more

“…Classical investigation reveals that, although it is unquestionably valid, (1) is unavoidably misleading; it creates the notion that gravitation is an action of particulate matter [4]. This notion might have influenced the consensus that its wider applications failed to meet the criteria for a valid theory of gravitation, the minimum requirement, of course, includes prediction of mercury's perihelion shift, explanation for deflection of light grazing a large cosmological body, and explanation for the Viking spacecraft time-delay experiment [5].…”

“…By adjusting the value of e (by sending up a satellite in a highly elliptical orbit, for example), it is possible to experimentally distinguish between [3.17] and [5.17]. If [3.17] is true, it is possible for A@, to be zero by correctly choosing L and e (9). It has already been mentioned4 that the PN expansion developed here may be used to calculate the bending of light, and that the results agree with present-day data on the solar system (9), provided 11, 1 5 1.9 x lo4 km.…”
