Exploring Optimal Charging Strategies for Off-Grid Solar Photovoltaic Systems: A Comparative Study on Battery Storage Techniques

Stoica Dorel,
Mohammed Gmal Osman,
Cristian-Valentin Strejoiu
et al.

Abstract: This paper presents a comparative analysis of different battery charging strategies for off-grid solar PV systems. The strategies evaluated include constant voltage charging, constant current charging, PWM charging, and hybrid charging. The performance of each strategy is evaluated based on factors such as battery capacity, cycle life, DOD, and charging efficiency, as well as the impact of environmental conditions such as temperature and sunlight. The results show that each charging strategy has its advantages… Show more

“…Third generation solar cells have had a moderate RT overall but high RT5, indicating a recent increase in research interests and breakthroughs. Finally, 4th generation solar cells have had a low RT overall but high RT5, indicating that this is a relatively new and emerging field of research with increasing interest in recent years [20].…”

“…Furthermore, as suggested, Figure 1, "Benefits of DC, AC, and hybrid DC-AC coupled configurations of stand-alone PV systems," has been relocated to the Methods section to ensure a streamlined presentation of our study. [14][15][16] The primary objective of this study is to model, simulate, and evaluate stand-alone photovoltaic (PV) systems, specifically focusing on PV islanding scenarios. By employing advanced simulation techniques and modeling tools, our aim is to enhance the understanding of system dynamics and operational efficiency under varying conditions.…”

“…These discussions often encompass various green energy sources, such as solar electricity, wind power, wave power, and tidal power [1]. Over the coming decades, there is a projected increase in the demand for hydrogen fuel [2], which has garnered attention both as a potential energy source and as a means of energy storage [3].…”
