Management of COVID‐19 largely depends on the reporting of suspected or confirmed positive cases. This study examined public's suspect report intention during COVID‐19 using and extending the theory of planned behavior by adding two incident‐specific variables such as perceived severity of COVID‐19 and fear of retaliation. Direct association of attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control with suspect report intention and moderating role of perceived severity of COVID‐19 and fear of retaliation were probed. This study also investigated whether the moderation of perceived severity of COVID‐19 (primary moderator) varies with different level of fear of retaliation (secondary moderator) using moderated moderation analysis. Analyzing data collected from 554 Indian citizens provides evidence that attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control were positively associated with suspect report intention. Perceived severity of COVID‐19 and fear of retaliation negatively moderated such associations. When fear of retaliation was high, high perceived severity of COVID‐19 did not positively moderate the association of attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control with suspect report intention. Perceived behavioral control was the most potent facilitator and fear of retaliation was the strongest inhibitor of suspect report intention. Understanding people's suspect report intention can assist in implementing awareness programs to encourage suspect report intention and stop the community spread of COVID‐19.

By and large, COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented circumstance that impacted millions of people around the globe. This is a new strain of coronavirus that targets one’s lower respiratory tract and most likely to infect those who are immunosuppressed. Thus, this qualitative paper answers the question, What characterizes the preventive measures of the government to combat COVID-19 in the Philippines? The research design employed was content analysis with news articles in three major dailies in the country as its corpora of data. From the cool and warm analyses of the field text, four measures emerged, labeled as ‘preventive nodes’ namely: communication node which refers to government’s way of disseminating the needed information and coming up with an alternative in saving the lives of many while vaccines are still on progress; accommodation node which pertains to supplementary efforts from the government in addressing health, social and economic concerns brought by COVID-19; assessment node which relates to the issues that have to be improved both of government and its people; and impact node which refers to government’s way of reporting the cases that may indicate the result of their measure. It was concluded that these nodes may promote a sense of awareness and provide knowledge to the public, alleviate financial constraints, hunger, and unemployment, come up with a better response and arrive at informed decisions in taking actions to impede this crisis.

AI thermal facial recognition (AITFR) has been rapidly applied globally in the fight against Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19). However, AITFR has also been accompanied by a controversy regarding whether the public accepts it. Therefore, it is necessary to assess the acceptance of AITFR during the COVID‐19 crisis. Drawing upon the theory of acceptable risk and Siegrist's causal model of public acceptance (PA), we built a combined psychological model that included the perceived severity of COVID‐19 (PSC) to describe the influencing factors and pathways of AITFR acceptance. This model was verified through a survey conducted in Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, China, which collected 754 valid questionnaires. The results show that (1) COVID‐19 provides various application scenarios for AI‐related technologies. However, the respondents’ trust in AITFR was found to be very low. Additionally, the public appeared concerned about the privacy disclosure issue and the accuracy of the AITFR algorithm. (2) The PSC, social trust (ST), and perceived benefit (PB) were found to directly affect AITFR acceptance. (3) The PSC was found to have a significant positive effect on perceived risk (PR). PR was found to have no significant effect on PA, which is inconsistent with the findings of previous studies. (4) The PB were found to be a stronger mediator of the indirect effect of the PSC on ST induced by AITFR acceptance.
