Exploring Signals for a Nuclear Future Using Social Big Data

Abstract: Since the start of the new Korean government in 2017, the Korean nuclear energy system has undergone a major change. This change in national energy policy can be forecasted by analyzing social big data. This study verifies whether future forecasting methodologies using weak signals can be applied to Korean nuclear energy through text mining the data of web news between 2005 and 2018, comparing and applying the methodology to notable events (i.e., the UAE nuclear power plant (NPP) contract and nuclear p… Show more

“…Yoon [42] analyzed the growth rate of words, documents, and frequencies using text mining, and extracted Strong signals and Weak signals. Previous studies that explored future signals using text mining extracted future signals using a keyword emergence map based on term frequency (TF) and a keyword issue map based on document frequency (DF) [43][44][45]. However, this method had a limitation in that signals that were not included in both the keyword emergence map and the keyword issue map were not included in the future sign in conclusion.…”

“…According to the data of the world nuclear energy association, as of January 2021, global nuclear power generation has accounted for 10.1% of the total global power generation. The operation of nuclear power in the world shows that nuclear power is a safe and sustainability energy [1]. It is not only an effective way to reduce energy and environmental pollution, but also an effective means to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.…”
