Exploring the Spatial Variation of Access/Egress Distances of Subway Stations Using Mobile Phone Positioning Data in Chengdu, China

Abstract: The distance from the origin or destination to or from the subway station is defined as the access or egress distance, which determines the service coverage of the subway station. However, little literature studies the distances at the station level, and they may vary from station to station. Therefore, this study aims to explore the influencing factors and spatial variation of the distances at the station level by using the mobile phone positioning data of more than 1.2 million anonymous users in Chengdu, Chi… Show more

“…Accessibility is a major concern in such climates, where snow and ice can impede movement; therefore, features like heated walkways, efficient snow removal, and non-slip In the field of architectural and urban design, various elements of subway entrance design are crucial in determining passenger satisfaction. The quantity of entrances at a subway station significantly influences ingress and egress, thereby enhancing subway accessibility [18]. This aspect is closely linked with the distribution of these entrances, which determines how effectively they are integrated into the urban landscape.…”

“…Based on relevant literature and available data [48][49][50], this study presents a comprehensive system of indicators to assess the built environment surrounding metro stations, which is based on four categories, including the level of development around the station, the transportation system, the urban design, and the structural characteristics of the metro network. The system includes nine explanatory variables, of which one is categorical and eight are continuous.…”

“…Conversely, values significantly higher than −1/(N − 1) indicate a stronger degree of spatial autocorrelation. If Moran's I index equal zero, it indicates a certain degree of randomness in the variable [48].…”
