Exploring Time Perspective in Greek Young Adults: Validation of the Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory and Relationships with Mental Health Indicators

Abstract: In this article we examine the factorial structure of the Greek version of the Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (ZTPI; Zimbardo and Boyd in J Personal Soc Psychol 77:1271-1288, in a sample of 337 university students, using principal axis factoring (PAF) with oblique rotation, and its dimensionality using parallel analysis. “…The way in which an individual emotionally focuses on one aspect of time (e.g., past, present, or future) relative to other aspects of time, impacts that individual's daily decisions, behaviors, and plans . For example, individuals who tend to focus on the present are more likely to self-report substance use (Keough, Zimbardo, & Boyd, 1999;Wills, Sandy, & Yaeger, 2001), but those who focus on the future are more likely to engage in proactive coping (Anagnostopoulos & Griva, 2012). The relation between temporal orientation and health-related outcomes may be moderated by an individual's desire for control over the situation (Fieulaine & Martinez, 2010).…”
