“…The adrenal gland is innervated by preganglionic sympathetic neurons from the intermediolateral cell column in the thoracic spine [ 28 ]. Two immunohistochemistry studies in rats showed intense VAChT signal in medullary nerve fibers, but no signal in medullary cells or in the cortex [ 15 , 38 ]. This suggests, that the intense signal seen in the present study is generated solely by the cholinergic preganglionic neurons in the medulla.…”
