“…In the current study, we found the local recurrence rate was consistent with previous studies (Table 3) after extended curettage combined with adjuvant therapy [13,[25][26][27][28][29]. Although with a lower risk of tumour recurrence, en bloc resection has a greater functional impairment and higher incidence of complications [30].…”

“…Limb function after en bloc resection of the fibula and distal ulna is usually good; therefore, Campanacci stage 1 or 2 GCTB in the fibula or distal ulna is an indication for en bloc resection [29]. Pathological fractures were found in 9-17% of patients with GCTB [11,19], while the recurrence rate were similar between curettage and en bloc resection (1/13 patients (7%) and 2/33 patients (6%), respectively) [53]; therefore, pathological fracture is not a contraindication for curettage [53][54][55]. For simple fractures, curettage and plate fixation can be performed; cast fixation is indicated to heal the fracture, followed by curettage.…”

“…4,5,6 On the opposite end of the spectrum is total en bloc resection which is quite successful at minimizing local recurrence, but is destructive to native anatomy andrequires the implantation of prosthetics. 7 Accordingly, there is a great need for treatment modalities that are effective, reliable, and reduce morbidity.…”
