Abstract:Mitigation of Li-ion battery system fires consists of reliable fault detection and proactive, fast discharge control. Both require modeling of failure modes due to high temperatures and currents between normal operation and thermal runaway. In this work, we present a control-oriented, reduced-order, multi-physics model that captures the electrochemical, thermal, gas generation, mechanical expansion, and venting behavior of NMC pouch cells undergoing an external short circuit (ESC) from different initial state-… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
