“…This results [9] in a ''quasichemical'' equilibrium constant for Reaction [3]: [11] AS AA SS AS AS When ( AS Ϫ AS T) ϭ 0, the solution of Eqs. [7] through [11] gives a randon distribution of A and S on the quasilattice, with X AA ϭ , X SS ϭ , and X AS ϭ 2 Y A Y S , and 2 2…”

“…The liquid oxide ( slag ) phase is modeled in terms of a series of non‐ideally interacting species, either pure oxides, such as CaO and SiO 2 , or associated species, such as CaSiO 3 and Ca 2 SiO 4 , used to take account of sharp changes in the thermodynamic properties of the liquid phase at particular compositions. The ‘associate’ model [13, 14] is conceptually simple, flexible and, unlike other models which were tested, has no trouble representing amphoteric oxides and no tendency to predict spurious miscibility gaps. This type of model is also able to deal with both liquid sulfides (mattes) and liquid metals within the same set of data.…”

“…8 . 9 An ad vantage claimed for the KapoorFrohberg model is that no additional data are reqUired in combining data for binary systems to describe higher-order systems. This claim can be substantiated only to a certain level.…”
