Extensively hydrolyzed casein formula alone or with L. rhamnosus GG reduces β‐lactoglobulin sensitization in mice

Abstract: The data support dietary intervention with EHCF for CMA prevention and treatment through a favorable immunomodulatory action. The observed effects are significantly enhanced by LGG supplementation.

“…Moreover, a recent study indicated that ingestion of an extensively hydrolyzed casein formula reduced the level of specific IgE production and the anaphylaxis reaction in β-LG-sensitized mice [38]. Thus, our results also likely reflect this type of antigen nonspecific immunomodulatory effect.…”

“…Thus, our results also likely reflect this type of antigen nonspecific immunomodulatory effect. However, in contrast to previous studies [36, 38], we evaluated the serum antibodies and anaphylaxis reaction at over 40 days after the end of ingestion periods. Therefore, the suppression of immunoreaction observed in our study was considered to be largely due to antigen-specific oral tolerance.…”

“…Further, Lundelin et al have shown the long‐term safety of four different strains of probiotics and that the perinatal administration of Lactococcus rhamnosus GG may contribute to the reduction of allergic diseases in children aged 10 years and older. The clinical effect of allergy prevention by Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG has also been confirmed in an animal trial with subsequently decreased sensitization to a common milk allergen …”

“…Although the use of probiotics, in conjunction with an extensively hydrolysed formula, offers potentially a new way of CM tolerance induction, to date no official guidelines suggest the routine use of probiotics, by itself or in combination with a hypoallergenic formula to induce tolerance 139. extensively hydrolysed casein formula with and without LGG.…”
