External Fixation in Orthopedics

Abstract: Background: The purpose of this study is to evaluate a new method for treating obsolete acetabular dislocation with limb discrepancy by external xation assisted pre-reduction. Methods: Thirteen patients admitted from January 2010 to February 2018 with a mean duration from injury to surgery of 5.0±2.1 months and an average preoperative leg-length discrepancy of 7.7±2.3 cm were enrolled in this study. The dislocation and associated acetabular fracture type, clinical outcomes and residual limb equality were evalu… Show more

“…Numerous reconstructive options for extremity bone defects following WLE exist in the form of non-vascularized cancellous or cortical autografts, allografts, bone transport procedures, and custom mega-prosthetic replacements. 11 12 13 14 15 16 The fibula is a long and straight tubular bone that has reliable vascularity relatively constant anatomy, and its shape allows intramedullary reaming into long bones, 17 18 19 with minimal donor site morbidity. A vascularized-free fibular flap can successfully reconstruct long postexcisional bony defects.…”

“…It is worth to note that the alignment of axial dynamization shares the same kinematic constraints on external fixators as the alignment of bone lengthening (Gugenheim, 2004;Saldanha et al, 2004). The constraint equations and the criteria established for the alignment of axial dynamization apply to external fixator for the alignment of bone lengthening.…”
