Extraction, Characterization, and Molecular Weight Determination ofSenna tora(L.) Seed Polysaccharide

Abstract: The objective of the present work was extraction of polysaccharide from Senna tora L. seed and its characterization as a pharmaceutical excipient. Polysaccharide extraction was based on mechanical separation of the endosperm of seeds of Senna tora, water dissolution, centrifugation, and precipitation with acetone. Standard procedures were used to study the viscosity, micromeritic properties, and microbial bioburden. Accelerated stability study was carried out on isolated polysaccharide for six months at 40°C/7… Show more

“…Correlating the absorption bands in the FTIR spectra that were obtained, the absorption peaks in the region of 3400 cm -1 is assigned to O-H bond, 1647 cm -1 to C=O bond, 1143 cm -1 to the C-O bond are indicative of the distinctive feature of the carboxylate and ester groups (COOH) which is the characteristic functional group of fatty acids and ester. The similar band were identified by [11]. The absorption peaks in the regions of 1433 assigned to the C-H bond is a characteristic feature of all alkyl group.…”

“…Product yield of polymer was calculated by dividing of amount of polymer obtained to total amount of Excipients taken for preparation of product. All the batches of prepared polymer was placed in Graduated Measuring Cylinder to ind its bulk density using the following Formula (Pawar and Lalitha, 2015).…”

“…Angle of repose of Polymer was determined by ixed funnel method the granules were allowed to low through a funnel ixed to a stand at a de inite height. The angle of repose Θ was then calculated by measuring the height (h) and radius (r) of the formed granules heap and incorporating these values into the under mentioned Formula (Pawar and Lalitha, 2015).…”

“…In oriental medicine, the seeds are known to have several physiological benefits such as improving liver function and vision. They are also used to treat hypertension, hepatitis, cirrhosis ascites, and habitual constipation in India and East Asia [9,10]. In previous studies, several anthraquinones and naphthopyrones were isolated from S. tora L. seeds [11].…”
