“…Extraskeletal osteosarcoma in the mediastinum, thoracic wall, lung and pleura is very rare. Indeed, only 10 cases of thoracic osteosarcoma have been previously reported,4–13 and their clinicopathological features remain to be fully elucidated. We examined such mesothelioma cases and pleural osteosarcomas, including eight cases in the literature, using clinicopathological and immunohistochemical methods, including those for a so-called mesothelioma marker as well as BRCA1-associated protein (BAP1), methylthioadenosine phosphorylase (MTAP) and monoclonal HEG1 homolog 1 (HEG1), and we also used fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) to examine for homozygous deletion of p16.…”
