Abstract:Hexagonal plate-shaped MgB 2 crystals have been prepared at ambient pressure. A superconducting transition has been observed at 37 K with a large transition width of T c ∼ 22 K. The lattice strain (0.7%) is calculated from the FWHM of XRD data. Both an edge dislocation with Burgers vector b = −a, and a Mg (nano-agglomerate) self-ordering superstructure with lattice constant 2a 0 have been directly detected in the [001] direction by HRTEM. The very broad transition may be caused by these defects in the crystals. Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
