FaceMashup: An End-User Development Tool for Social Network Data

Abstract: Every day, each active social network user produces and shares texts, images and videos. While developers can access such data through application programming interfaces (APIs) for creating games, visualizations and routines, end users have less control on such information. Their access is mediated by the social application features, which limits them in combining sources, filtering results and performing actions on groups of elements. In order to fill this gap, we introduce FaceMashup, an end user development… Show more

Lieberman et al [6] define End-User Development as "a set of methods, techniques and tools that enable users of software systems, acting as non-professional software developers, to create, modify or extend at some point in time a software artifact".…”

“…This could include use of a general theory of scientific/intellectual movements (SIMs; [117]) in guiding the discourse. Planning by a Smart Society taking advantage of services geared towards Smart Cities [118] and situations of personal interest (e.g., as reflected by Social Media) could assist end users in their manipulation of data, information, and Social Network information resources [119]. Indeed, Smart Systems with the capacity to factor-in local inhabitants' metadata and their specific characteristics (e.g., owners of chainsaws, volunteer fire-fighters, and other items or skill-sets) would quickly highlight points of contact in a community relevant to recovery efforts (with ethical and privacy concerns properly considered).…”
