“…Monolayer MoS 2 also demonstrates two‐photon upconversion luminescence with a nonsaturation two‐photon absorption coefficient of (7.62 ± 0.15) × 10 3 cm GW –1 , which is three orders of magnitude higher than conventional semiconductors. Degenerate two‐photon absorption is also observed for thin WS 2 (bandgap: ≈1.9 eV for monolayer) films of different thickness (smaller than 41 layers) at 1030 nm (Figure ) as well as WS 2 sheets dispersed in a PMMA matrix at 800 nm . Based on these experimental observations, the authors have tentatively ascribed the difference in NLO absorption between monolayer and few‐layer MoS 2 to the variation of electronic structure.…”

“…As an alternative Mo source of sodium molybdate (Na 2 MoO 4 ), the process could also be hydrothermally reduced by thioacetamide to synthesize uniform MoS 2 nanosheets in water [72]. MoS 2 and WS 2 nanosheets could also be synthesised by other Mo or W sources and sulphur sources under hydrothermal or solvothermal conditions [73][74][75][76][77].…”
