Factor Structure, Reliability and Validity of the Taiwanese Version of the Multidimensional Anxiety Scale for Children

Abstract: The aims of this study were to examine the factor structure, internal consistency 1 month test-retest reliability and the discriminant validity for the diagnosis of anxiety disorder of the Taiwanese version of the Multidimensional Anxiety Scale for Children (MASC-T). A total of 12,536 Taiwanese children and adolescents in the community were recruited to examine the adequacy of the original four-factor structure of the MASC-T by confirmatory factor analysis and the internal-consistency reliability by Cronbach's… Show more

“…The one-month test-retest reliability of the MASC-T was in the satisfactory to excellent range, with the single intra-class correlations (ICC)s ranged from .727 to .897 and the average ICC ranged from .842 to .946 (p \ 0.001). Subjects with any anxiety disorder had higher scores on the total MASC-T (t = -4.205, p \ 0.001), physical symptoms (t = -3.592, p \ 0.001), and social anxiety (t = -3.449, p \ 0.001) than those without any anxiety disorder [20].…”

“…The MASC-T was translated from the english version by standard forward-, backward-, and pretest-step methods [19]. The psychometrics of the MASC-T have been examined and described elsewhere [20]. In brief, the results of the confirmatory factor analysis (root mean square error of approximation = 050, standardized root mean square residual = 053, non-normed fit index = 944, comparative fit index = 948) supported the adequacy of the four-factor structure of the MASC-T (physical symptoms, harm avoidance, social anxiety, and separation/panic).…”

“…The Taiwanese version of the Multidimensional Anxiety Scale for Children (MASC-T) consists of 39 items that are answered on a 4-point Likert scale to evaluate participants' self-reported general anxiety symptoms 29,30 . A higher total MASC-T score represents a more severe level of general anxiety.…”
