Factors Affecting Enhanced Video Quality Preferences

Abstract: The development of video quality metrics requires methods for measuring perceived video quality. Most such metrics are designed and tested using databases of images degraded by compression and scored using opinion ratings. We studied video quality preferences for enhanced images of normally-sighted participants using the method of paired comparisons with a thorough statistical analysis. “…All the studies presented above have assessed different factors affecting user adoption of mobile data [14,15], or looked into how different billing plans affect user satisfaction and interaction with mobile data [16,17] but have not looked into how they affect user preference for video quality. Research that has assessed how different factors affect video quality has addressed the influence of video content type and enhancement [22] and how certain billing plans [20,24], user attitude towards risk [21] or cultural traits [23] affect user preference for video quality. As opposed to the above studies, in this article we focus on assessing whether the user preference for a certain multimedia content or its previous usage of mobile data affects the preference for a certain type of video content.…”

“…The impact of video content preference has been investigated in several studies [14], [15], [16], [14], [17], but none have investigated the impact of mobile device preference on the QoE over video service. With respect to mobile device specifications, there are some challenges for managing video traffic and displaying video to ensure an acceptable QoE for end users.…”
