Factors Associated with Imaging in Patients with Early Breast Cancer After Initial Treatment

Abstract: Despite recommendations against its use, imaging is common in ebc survivors. Understanding the factors associated with aie use helps to identify areas for further research and is required to lower imaging rates and to improve survivorship care.

“…We found that patients having had radiotherapy or chemotherapy were more likely to FU examinations after surgery. This result was consistent with the reports by Enright and Neuman that breast cancer patients who have undergone more intensive treatment have better adherence and more frequent FU [20,31]. Generally speaking, patients with more severe disease should be Abbreviations: ER Estrogen receptor status, PR Progesterone receptor status, HER 2 Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 *Adjusted ORs in the final model from step-wise logistic regression analysis by including all the variables in the Table with P < 0.10 from univariate logistic regression and eliminate each at a time justified by likelihood ratio test [13] treated with more intensive treatment.…”

“…The small amount of overuse of surveillance imaging in BC, MB and ON (Fig. 3a) may be a result of too restrictive definition of an eligible test in our study (imaging only considered “surveillance” if > 330 days from last such test), as other ON studies reported multiple surveillance tests in Year 2 post-treatment [41, 42]. In NS, a different approach was utilized based on availability of screening imaging event data in the provincial screening database, which would account for the higher proportion of patients reported to have received surveillance imaging in excess of guideline recommendations.…”

“…The amount of breast cancer post-treatment care delivered by PCPs differs by province in Canada [37], and underuse and overuse of guideline-based care has been identified in other countries [38, 39] and in two provinces [40] [41, 42]. The objective of this study was to assess and compare quality of post-treatment care in Canadian provinces by determining provincial variation in the level of compliance with guideline-based breast cancer-related survivor care, general preventive care, and ongoing care for comorbidities, using administrative datasets.…”

“…AuT can be performed successfully in CML patients [74], but the bcr\abl translocation reappeared in a majority of patients, even those transplanted in chronic phase. It remains unclear whether relapsing CML cells always originate from residual host cells escaping from the preparative regimen or from CML cells present in the stem-cell graft, but Deisseroth et al [75] have demonstrated that malignant cells, present in the graft, contribute to disease recurrence.…”
