Factors Influencing Tourists’ Intention to Use COVID-19 Contact Tracing App

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to develop and test a model that explores the antecedents of tourists’ acceptance of COVID-19 contact tracing app (CTA). Data was obtained from a crowdsourcing platform (Pollfish), in which 400 respondents answered the questionnaire. We used SmartPLS to analyse the data. Results reveal that trust and structural assurance have the strongest relationship. Furthermore, the relationship between trust and destination safety was positive. Finally, self-efficacy moderated the relationshi… Show more

“…For instance, the use of contact tracing apps could help check COVID-19 transmissions among tourists. The app could easily identify and alert relevant authorities where they are found [22,26]. Though STTs have strongly been linked to post-COVID-19 recovery strategies, research investigating their adoption in urban contexts have largely been done in cities in China and Western democracies [18], leaving African cities relatively understudied.…”

“…One focus of this study is on trust interactions between travelers and residents. Given that COVID-19 spreads from person to person, all people in the same spatial proximity should have baseline trust to protect each other (Dedeoglu and Bogan, 2021 ; Ukpabi et al, 2021 ; Quintal et al, 2022 ). Shin et al ( 2022 ) indicate future travel intentions would be determined by an individual's level of trust in the COVID-19 measures at their destination.…”

“…Several studies examining the impact of COVID-19 on tourism have already been published, mostly examining changing traveler preferences (Güliz Uğur-Akbiyik 2020, VARGAS 2020, Li-Ito 2021, UKPABI et al 2021. At the same time, however, most recent publications lack "best practice" -sharing crisis management strategies and common thinking on reviving tourism after re-opening.…”
