Fast Magnetic Emission Tests for Continuous Measurements Around an Equipment Under Test

Abstract: For the assessment of radiated electromagnetic interference (EMI) emission of an equipment under test (EUT) traditionally a limited amount of positions around the EUT are chosen. This is due to the long measurement time per position of the EMI test receiver, although the introduction of time domain electromagnetic interference (TDEMI) analyzers already created serious reduction in measurement time. The limited amount of measurement positions around an EUT means however that the maximum interference can be miss… Show more

“…A lot of measurement steps and a minimum amount of measurement time per frequency bin result in a very long and detrimental measurement time, as has been shown in [5]. Additionally, having to do these measurements at many different positions around a large equipment under test (EUT) increases the total measurement time even more, for some systems this can even be as long as one week, resulting in very high costs [6]. To reduce these long and therefore expensive measurement times time-domain EMI analyzers became very popular, but remain expensive.…”

“…The results presented show that also for magnetic fields, the generated EMI can be tuned by choosing different combinations of modulation and carrier frequency. Further development of the measurement technique will allow a more accurate assessment of highly radiative or suppressed frequencies in the system under test, first steps where taken in this endeavor in [34,35].…”
