Fate of Biodegradable Engineered Nanoparticles Used in Veterinary Medicine as Delivery Systems from a One Health Perspective

Abstract: The field of veterinary medicine needs new solutions to address the current challenges of antibiotic resistance and the need for increased animal production. In response, a multitude of delivery systems have been developed in the last 20 years in the form of engineered nanoparticles (ENPs), a subclass of which are polymeric, biodegradable ENPs, that are biocompatible and biodegradable (pbENPs). These platforms have been developed to deliver cargo, such as antibiotics, vaccines, and hormones, and in general, ha… Show more

“…Several nanoparticles have attracted interest for standard carcinoma treatment because of their enhanced permeability, efficient internalization, retention properties, and promising anticarcinoma activity as these cause adverse effects, drug resistance, and higher efficacy for carcinoma treatment . With increasing commercial and therapeutic applications of engineered nanoparticles, the study of their adverse potential effects on public and environmental health has become an important research topic . Both short- and long-term in vivo studies have been carried out with many nanoparticles .…”

“…1) show that the international scientific interest in proteins expanded, from their traditional use as antigens to the area of immunoadjuvants. This thematic opening reflects the progress obtained in relation to promising molecules and biomaterials, such as saponins, polysaccharides, nano/microparticles, and others (Byoung et al, 2019;Cerbu et al, 2021;Chand et al, 2021;Ji et al, 2020), all with an acceptable efficacy and safety profile, biocompatibility, and biodegradability (Table 3).…”

“…Iron oxide nanoparticles have previously been used as a thermal ablation treatment [ 148 ], and it has been suggested that they could form the future basis for hyperthermia-related endometriosis treatment. Cerbu et al 2021 [ 149 ] sought to control the release of tilmicosin by using hydrogenated castor oil–solid lipid nanoparticle carriers in mastitis.…”
