Fatty acid composition of vegetable oil blend and in vitro effects of pharmacotherapeutical skin care applications

Abstract: Vegetable oils have been used for a plethora of health benefits by their incorporation in foods, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical products, especially those intended for skin care. This study aimed to investigate the cutaneous benefits of a vegetable oil blend (VOB) formulation and its fatty acid composition. The anti-inflammatory activity was studied in macrophages of RAW 264.7 cells by investigating the release of nitric oxide (NO), superoxide anion generation (O 2 - ), tumor… Show more

“…Regarding the antiinflammatory effect, LA was found to be catalyzed by skin epidermis lipoxygenase into 13S‐hydroxyoctadecadienoic acid (13S‐HODE), which subsequently activated hydrolytic cleavage of the membrane inositol phospholipids into 13S‐HODE‐substituted diacylglycerol (Ziboh, Cho, Mani, & Xi, ). LA‐rich vegetable oil also increased the total number of cells in the wounded area and suppressed proinflammatory TNF‐α and IL‐6 cytokine production in lipopolysaccharide‐stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophage cells (Guidoni et al, ).…”

“…Sunflower oil is an auxiliary ingredient in compounding medicines. Most often it is part of ointments, creams [1] and suspensions. In many suspensions for the treatment of the oral mucosa, sunflower oil is the basis of the dosage forms, where it is combined with various pharmacologically active ingredients.…”

“…In addition, the major fatty acids are docosahexaenoic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid, linoleic acid, and arachidonic acid. [3][4][5] Inflammation is a non-explicit response of body tissues against destructive stimulus, injury, or infection to secure the body and promote the recovery process. Regarding this, a large group of disorders such as cancer, asthma, inflammatory bowel diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, allergies and sarcoidosis are originated from an inflammatory condition.…”

“…6 Some researchers have studied about the benefits of snakehead fish for reducing inflammation. Local people believed that snakehead fish reduces pain and use it mostly for treating mothers after delivery and any post-operative pain, 7 wound healing, 5,[8][9] anti-eczema, 10 and platelet aggregation 2 are some wellknown pharmacological properties of snakehead fish are demonstrated till now. Glycine is one of the amino acids which have the highest content in SFP.…”
